TITLE: Investigation Of Citizen Complaints

POLICY

The Department will investigate any complaints registered by citizens.

PROCEDURES

When a complaint is registered with a staff member of the Department, it will be passed on to the appropriate Assistant District Director or District Director. The Assistant District Director or District Director will assign a supervisor to investigate the allegation or investigate it themselves. Following the investigation, the Department will take whatever action is deemed appropriate and/or necessary, following the legal advice of the Iowa Department of Justice, Attorney General’s Office, if contacted. After the appropriate action has been taken, the District Director will keep on file a copy of the findings from the investigation and the action taken. The complainant will be advised, if allowable within the confines of the confidentiality of information, of the outcome of the investigation and the Department’s actions in response to the complaint.
