TITLE: Iowa Public Employees Retirement System
All employees of the Department, except "Temporary" employees, and part-time employees that are full-time students, are eligible and must participate in the Iowa Public Employees´ Retirement system upon the onset of employment. The Department shall deduct the employee´s share of the contribution from each paycheck and shall forward it, with the employer´s share, to the IPERS Administration.
"Temporary employees" are excluded from IPERS coverage provided they have not established an ongoing relationship with an IPERS covered employer. An ongoing relationship is established when the employee is paid wages of $300 or more in two consecutive quarters, or if the employee is employed by a covered employer for 1,040 hours or more in a calendar year. Coverage will begin the quarter after the permanency of the relationship is established.
- Each new employee shall complete the IPERS Membership Information and Beneficiary Designation form and forward it to the Personnel Technician immediately upon beginning employment.
- Information booklets describing IPERS benefits are available from the Personnel Technician or through the Iowa Public Employee´s Retirement System´s website at: www.ipers.org/index.htm.
- Employees who have a change of address must complete an IPERS Member Address Change form and forward directly to IPERS. This will ensure that the annual account statements sent out by IPERS to each member will be mailed to the correct address. An address change form can be found in the IPERS Information booklet available from the Personnel Technician.
- Employees who have a change in name or beneficiary must complete a new IPERS Membership and Beneficiary Designation form and forward directly to IPERS. This form can be found in the IPERS information booklet available from the Personnel Technician.
