TITLE: Offender Mail
Offenders may send and receive mail. Offenders are encouraged to remain in contact with family and friends.
Offenders are informed of facility mail practices and standard post office protocol upon entry into the program. This is done via the resident handbook.
Offenders may be asked to open mail and packages in front of staff, as requested, to aid in the detection of contraband. When based on legitimate facility interests of order and security, mail may be read or rejected. The offender is notified when incoming mail is returned or outgoing mail is withheld.
Offenders will not be allowed to correspond with other offenders without staff approval.
Mail for offenders who have left the facility will be returned to the sender.
The chaplain may provide indigent offenders with necessary writing materials including postage stamps.
