TITLE: Personal Business

POLICY

Employees shall not conduct personal business on Departmental time.

PROCEDURES

This policy is not intended to prohibit employees from making personal arrangements while at the job when these arrangements cannot be easily done on non-work time, when the time involved is nominal, does not infringe upon the work of the employee and does not involve financial benefit to the employee (see Policy Outside Employment). Examples of permissible activities are calling to make a medical appointment for oneself or another family member, necessary telephone conversations with a child’s school about emergency matters such as illness or discipline, or other conversations of brief duration to conduct personal business. However, if the employee must leave the workplace to attend to a situation, or the time spent on the telephone infringes upon the work of the employee, and either results in the employee working fewer hours than scheduled, leave must be requested and approved.
