The District’s Fugitive Unit Policies covers those Fugitive Unit employees whose jobs involve the use of force and have law enforcement responsibilities, including the power of arrest. The members of the Fugitive Unit have a full physical by a “licensed physician or surgeon and meets the physical requirements necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer” as well as “performing satisfactorily in pre-employment cognitive or personality tests, or both, prescribed by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy”. The District may require any member of the Fugitive Unit to receive a mental and/or physical re-examination or be certified as “cleared for duty” following an injury that removed them from active duty for any period of time. All other new District employees receive a cursory physical examination performed by the Polk County Health Department prior to employment with the District.
