The Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services is a community-based correctional agency which provides a variety of services to offenders in South-Central Iowa. We provide services prior to conviction, post conviction, and also programming and specialized supervision.
Pre-conviction services allow an individual to be released from jail provided they qualify for and agree to the terms of the release.
Post Conviction service is determined at sentencing. Depending on the offense this could be informal probation, community service, prison, or a suspended prison sentence with a period of probation and/or parole.
Programming and/or Specialized Supervision services may be required as a condition of probation, parole, or residential services. A need may also be determined during the offender assessment process. These are designed to assist individuals with anti-social attitudes and behaviors. Specialized supervision requirements are determined by the offense, risk, and/or mental capacity. Some examples of these are domestic abuse, sex offender treatment, special needs, major mental illness, brain injury, and/or mental retardation.
